Mrs. Pamela Redwine from the Yalobusha MSU Extension came to Health Science 2 class to let students to be “Gray for a Day”. The students learn about the aging process and its effect on the five senses. They also discussed how you can care for someone with different sensory issues. Students had a great time. Thank you Mrs. Redwine. We enjoy this activity every year!

“This week the Law and Public Safety 2nd year students were taken to a wooded area to complete their Homeland Security certification in Overland Search and Rescue. The day before, students were given a map with different points that they were required to navigate and each student was assigned a certain route to take. Using a grid reader, they calculated the distance between each of the points, how many paces would be required to cover each set distance, and the different degrees of travel (based on magnetic north) required to navigate from one point to the next. Using a compass, they successfully navigated from a known starting point to three separate locations and then back to the starting point. We would like a thank the Water Valley fire department and especially Chief Mark McGavock, Layth Terry, Joe Duncan and Ken Gunter for coming out and helping to ensure the students safety while they were in the woods.”

In recognition of Red Ribbon Week at Water Valley High School, Mr. Jones’s Law and Public Safety students learned about the many different uses and capabilities of a police drug dog and how they relate to the 4th amendment as well as due process of law. We are very grateful to Sgt. Gregg Jones (and K9 Azzy) with the Batesville Police Department for volunteering his time on his day off to come over and spend the entire day with us.
