The Mississippi Department of Education provided an informative, all-day training for all K-5th grade DES English Language Arts instructors on Monday, Jan. 6t, 2025. The morning session was spent diving into “Structured Literacy,” and the afternoon session delved into the HQIM (High-Quality Instructional Materials) DES uses to teach our students how to read.

Mrs Winters and Mrs Morris and their First Grade class had a special visitor today. They got to meet a bearded dragon and they also learned about what they eat and how cold-blooded animals are different than we are.

St. Nick made a stop by DES today to visit with our students. Before he headed back North, Superintendent Drew Pitcock updated the naughty and nice list with him.


Mrs. Baker’s class says “Thank you, Mrs. Clark!” for purchasing fun card games for the class.


Mrs Ford and Mrs. McCluskey's kindergarten class book exchange was held today.


Fourth grade reviewed their energy transfers standards by creating simple circuits out of aluminum and old Christmas lights. Students designed a Christmas tree and were challenged to complete the circuit to light the tree up!










DES library students have enjoyed guest readers last week! Thanks to all who came to read Christmas books!






As part of their unit on the book, Olive, the Other Reindeer, Mr. Brown taught a vocabulary lesson on musical instruments with Mrs. Sain’s Superstars. Thanks Mr. Brown for helping us better understand what a flute looks and sounds like and for the mini-concert of your trombone.
