🌿🐾 A big thank you to Mrs. Debra Veeder from the Mississippi Wildlife Federation for visiting Mrs. Jack’s class today! Mrs. Veeder brought her Enviroscape table to demonstrate how watersheds work, showing our students the impact of pesticides, fertilizers, car oil, and other pollutants on our aquatic ecosystems. 💧 The students were also able to test the water quality of a local pond, learning firsthand how important it is to protect our natural resources. It’s amazing to see how engaged and curious our students are about environmental conservation! 🌍

Law and Public Safety students participated in a life-saving CPR certification course. According to the American Heart Association, approximately 150,000 to 200,000 lives are saved every year by this training. They are now nationally certified in infant, toddler and adult CPR as well as operating an AED (automated external defibrillator). As part of the course, they also learned how to properly use a tourniquet and clear airway obstructions in infants, toddlers and adults.

Recently, seniors completed job shadowing hours with local community members. Seniors gained valuable knowledge and experience in career fields that they will pursue after graduation. Seniors in return created information boards about their experiences. Our 7th and 8th grade students visited with seniors to learn more about their experience in a career fair setting. This completes one of the college and career readiness requirements for seniors and 8th graders as part of the Individual Student Success Plans.

The 1st year Law and Public Safety students were given a scenario involving a large scale crime scene on the Water Valley High School baseball field. They were split into teams and worked together using only a drone to investigate, locate, describe, and document various pieces of evidence left on the scene. Items of evidence included an explosive device, a handgun, and a victim (as well as other pieces of evidence located on and around the victim). Next they will sketch out and label a crime scene diagram as well as using mathematical formulas to determine the distances between pieces of evidence in relation to known points of the baseball field. The final step will be to write out a narrative report on what they believe happened based on the crime scene and their investigation.
