• DAVIDSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY I. Davidson Elementary School shall involve parents in the joint development of educational plans under the guidelines of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, incorporating all amendments through the Omnibus Consolidated Recessions and Appropriations Act of 1996. A. Two parents from Davidson Elementary School serve on the School Planning Committee for the purpose of developing the Consolidated Federal Programs Educational Plan and School wide Plan. Other committee members shall consist of administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, community business leaders, and district office personnel. B. Parent surveys shall be conducted annually to assess the success of the educational plan. A written summary of the results shall be publicized and disseminated to parents. C. Student Performance Assessments shall be conducted annually to assess the success of the educational plan. A written summary of the results shall be publicized and disseminated to parents. D. If the educational plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school district shall submit any parent comments with such plan when the district submits the plan to the State Agency. II. Davidson Elementary School shall convene an annual meeting, at convenient times to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school's participation in Parent Involvement Activities, its requirements, and their right to be involved. A. One meeting in the spring shall be conducted at Davidson Elementary School. B. Parents shall be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review and improvement of the school parent involvement policy at the annual meeting. III. Davidson Elementary School shall establish, maintain, and staff a parent center or the purpose of parent training, disseminating information and involving parents with the education of their children. A. Conferences shall provide parents information about course curriculum, course objectives, forms of assessment use to measure student progress, the proficiency levels students are expected to meet National Educational Goals, state content standards, and state student performance standards. Effective methods to be used by parents in helping their children become better learners will be shared. B. Community leaders, parents, and other consultants shall provide training opportunities for parents. C. Parent Center meetings shall allow parents an opportunity to formulate suggestions and share experiences with other parents. D. A Parent Liaison Paraprofessional will help bridge the gap between parents and school. IV. Davidson Elementary School shall develop a parent/student/school compact. The compact shall be entitled "The Water Valley Covenant". A. The compact shall be jointly developed with parents. Parents shall have the opportunity to review and make suggestions for revision to the compact at school level Parent Involvement Meetings. B. Parent/teacher conferences at Davidson Elementary School shall be conducted annually to discuss the compact as it relates to the individual child's achievement. C. Frequent reports will be made to parents on their children's progress. D. Parents shall have reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child's school, and to observe classroom activities. 1. All school visits shall be scheduled in advance with the school principal or designee with the exception of special programs that are open to the general public. 2. Parent volunteer programs shall be coordinated through the school's office. 3. Parents shall not actively participate in activities during classroom observation unless asked by the teacher. 4. Classroom activities cannot be audio recorded or video taped by parents during observation. V. Davidson Elementary School shall schedule parent teacher conferences as needed to discuss academics, discipline, and otl1er matters. VI. Davidson Elementary School shall provide the parents involvement opportunities through open house, special programs, career night, and parent training provided by grants obtained by the district. Davidson Elementary School shall use every means available to publicize and disseminate information to parents concerning educational programs that affect their children. The methods to be used shall include parent/student handbooks, local media, school newspapers, letters to parents, public meetings, and postings on the district web site (www.wvsd.k12.ms.us). Water Valley School District Parent Involvement Policy School District understands the importance of parental involvement in school planning/improvement and makes a concerted effort to involve parents and other community members in the planning process. The district will insure that parents are involved in developing the policy by conducting annual parent involvement meetings. Parents are asked to complete an evaluation of the parent involvement activities to determine the effectiveness of the policy. Data from the evaluation is used to revise and improve the policy. The district will provide technical assistance and other support to schools through professional development training sessions led by district level administrator and outside consultants. Follow-up meetings are held to ensure training effectiveness. The district encourages parents to volunteer, parent support groups, parent/teacher conferences days to build the schools' and parents' capacity for strong parental involvement. Yearly the district promotes cooperative efforts between the local Head Start and daycare programs to disseminate information to parents and to make student transition to the next level smoother. The district insures that adequate funding is provided for parent involvement activities. Although one (1)percent of the district Title I allocation is less than $5,000 other local funds provide for the needs for parent involvement.
